Can you apply for a Vocatio grant? (eligibility)

According to Vocatio, grants are available for young people under certain conditions.

Nationality / connection to Belgium

• You are Belgian, or (if you have another nationality):
  • you are domiciled in Belgium and have lived there for at least 5 years
  • you are not from a country where a similar organisation/foundation exists (Vocatio, for example, refers French nationals to “La fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet de la Vocation”).

Project requirements

Your project is a calling (a passion or life project) based on:

• a pursuit of excellence
• and a pursuit of societal impact

Your calling falls under one of the 6 domains supported by Vocatio (see Details).

Selection process (more detail from the source)

1) Submitting applications (September–November)

You submit your application via an online form on the Vocatio website.

2) Preselection (January)

Applications are reviewed by 6 sector juries (domain-specific experts). According to the source, they preselect based on criteria such as:

• calling with a pursuit of excellence and social impact
• you have already started your calling and can show concrete achievements
• the calling is sustainable and realistic
• the budget is detailed and convincing
• it is hard to get funding via traditional channels
• the calling adds value for Belgium and its communities

If you are preselected, the jury contacts you to request additional information.

3) Final selection (February–March)

According to the source, the plenary jury bases its final decision on:

• a short written presentation with info about the candidate, calling and budget
• a video (elevator pitch) explaining your calling and why the grant matters
• an oral defence by the jury member who had an in-depth conversation with you

4) Award ceremony (June)

Vocatio officially announces the laureates of the new class during the annual award ceremony.
