What is the Purina Better with Pets Prize?

Purina runs the Better with Pets Prize (BWPP) to recognise organisations and social entrepreneurs who improve health and wellbeing for people in vulnerable situations by strengthening the pet–human bond.

BWPP Winners – 2025 (examples)

• Wag and Company (UK): visiting dogs and friendship visits for (among others) older pet lovers, including in care and medical settings. (Grant: €75,000 over 2 years.)
• 100% LIFE Dniprov Region (Ukraine): humanitarian medical services + collaboration with dog trainers/canine therapists for animal-assisted therapy in wartime conditions. (Grant: €75,000 over 2 years.)
• Acadia (France): trains assistance dogs for young people with type 1 diabetes (hypo/hyperglycaemia detection). (Grant: €50,000 over 2 years.)

BWPP Winners – 2023 (examples)

• 1st Prize – Pets As Therapy (UK): therapeutic pet visits to care homes, hospitals, hospices, schools and prisons. (2-year grant: €50,000/year.)
• 2nd Prize – CTAC (Spain): animal-assisted interventions (CTAC Method). (2-year grant: €30,000/year.)
• 3rd Prize – Street Vet (UK): free essential veterinary care for people experiencing homelessness and their pets. (2-year grant: €20,000/year.)
